SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — Police investigating reports of graffiti in the area of the Route 114 bridge on Sunday evening came across a group of juveniles beneath the bridge, armed with paint, brushes and chalk. Police contacted the parents of the juveniles, warning both parents and offspring not to make graffiti.
SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — The owners of a Meredith Avenue property who had been away from the house since last July reported to police on April 29 that seven windows on the house had been smashed. The owners told police that someone who watches the property for them had seen a youth enter the house. That caretaker followed the youth and found four juveniles inside the house without permission. The caretaker told the youths to leave, which they did. Police are investigating the possible link between the youths and damage to the house.
SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — An officer investigating a noise complaint on Sunday around noon on Madison Street found an individual doing lawn work with a gas-powered lawnmower and weed whacker, contrary to Sag Harbor Village code. The officer explained to the individual doing the work that such activity was prohibited on weekends. The mowing and weed whacking stopped and quiet was restored. Later Sunday morning, police received a report of power equipment being used on a Hampton Street property. An officer went there and advised the man who was using a gas-powered leaf blower that such activities were prohibited on Sundays. The man agreed to stop work for the day.
SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — The owner of a Lincoln Street residence called police on the evening of April 28, telling them that she was concerned that her tenant, whom she was trying to evict for lack of payment of rent, may have been in physical distress. Police went to the residence and knocked on the door, but received no answer. The door was unlocked and officers entered to check on the welfare of the resident. They found the man in his bedroom lying in bed, but not in distress. The man explained that he had a very sore back and did not hear the police knocking on the door. No further action was taken.
SAG HARBOR VILLAGE — Police received a complaint early evening April 29 from a man on Main Street, who said that a stranger had walked up to his wife and screamed an obscenity, shouting that her husband is a “criminal.” The man, who is a lawyer, told police he then followed that individual up Main Street toward Madison Street, where they both began shouting at each other and taking each other’s photographs with their cellphones. Police checked the area but could not find the man in question.
