Dolores D. Gil of Hampton Bays died Friday, July 10, at her home. She was 86.
Mrs. Gil graduated from New York University and worked at both Roosevelt Hospital and Southampton Hospital. She specialized in histology, cytology and cancer cell screening and taught many local physicians about advances in these fields.
According to survivors, Mrs. Gil, who volunteered for the Animal Rescue Fund, loved her family and animals. One of her hobbies was knitting and she shared the items she made with others, including the less fortunate. Her family described her as a strong, and independent woman.
Mrs. Gil is survived by her husband, Antonio Gil Sr.; two sons, Antonio Jr. and his wife Jo of Hampton Bays and Sarasota, Florida, and Richard and his wife Karen of Hampton Bays; four grandchildren, Adam Gil, Meredith Trottier, Dan Gil and Lisa Gil, and a great-granddaughter, Isabelle Lee Gil.
Visiting hours were held at the J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home of Hampton Bays on Sunday, July 12, and Monday, July 13, during which clergy from St. Rosalie’s Church conducted a parish prayer service. On Monday evening, members of the Hampton Bays Fire Department attended a prayer service in support of Mrs. Gil’s husband, a member of the department and past department commissioner. A funeral mass was held at St. Rosalie’s on Tuesday morning, followed by interment at Good Ground Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hampton Bays Fire Department and/or East End Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
