Donald A. Poremba
Donald A. Poremba of Southampton Village died at Southampton Hospital on Monday, February 7. He was 76.
Born and raised in Southampton Village, Mr. Poremba graduated from Southampton High School, served in the United States Air Force as a radar technician and studied electronics. He worked for 33 years at ITT Worldcom. He was also employed at Southampton Coal and Produce, the Presbyterian Church, and the Southampton Village Police Department.
Mr. Poremba was a member the Polish Political Club and the Combined Veterans Organization. He and his wife were parishioners and very active in their church, Our Lady of Poland. He was a handyman, and survivors said he could fix anything. He was known for his sense of humor, his love of storytelling, hunting, outdoor activities, and his passion was for fishing. He was an “old school” honorable, loyal, and caring provider for his family, and saw that all the needs of his wife and children were met, survivors said. He had many friends, fishing buddies, and was known by all around the Village of Southampton. He will be missed by many, but never forgotten, family said.
He is survived by wife Kathy; two children, Dona and Belinda; and five grandchildren, Amber, Anthony, Savannah, Melissa and Samantha.
Visitation was held Thursday, February 10, at the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton. A prayer service took place at the funeral home that evening. A funeral Mass was held on Friday, February 11, at Our Lady of Poland Roman Catholic Church in Southampton. Interment followed with full military honors at Sacred Hearts Roman Catholic Cemetery in Southampton.
