John T. Sullivan of Westhampton died at Southampton Hospital on Saturday, January 17, following a short illness. He was 82.
Mr. Sullivan was born to John and Mary Sullivan on April 1, 1926, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a retired major who served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years and taught at BOCES I for 20 years.
A volunteer for many local organizations, he was a life member of the Westhampton Beach Ambulance, the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the VFW. He served as the grand marshal of the Westhampton Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1994.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marion; three sons, Thomas and his wife Diana of Virginia, Robert and his wife Marsha of Stafford, Virginia, and John and his wife Lisa of Stafford, Virginia; a daughter, Marion and her husband Michael of Schoharie, New York; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Sullivan; and a sister, Marie Cahalane.
A wake was held at the Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach on January 19. A funeral service was held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Quiogue on January 20. Interment will take place at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
