Robert E. Siegfried Of Bridgehampton Dies May 22

Robert E. Siegfried of Concord, Massachusetts, and Bridgehampton died in Concord on May 22. He was 93.

Born January 16, 1922, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, he graduated with honors from Lehigh University in 1943 with a degree in chemical engineering. As a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, he served in combat with the 92nd Chemical Mortar Battalion in Western Europe and Germany. At the war’s end, he returned to Boston and married Blanche Worth, to whom he remained happily married for 69 years until her death in August 2014. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in June 1947, receiving a Master of Science degree in chemical engineering. He was employed by the Badger Company, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was involved with the design and construction of petroleum-refining facilities, chemical and petrochemical plants around the world. He served as the company’s president for many years and when the Badger Company joined the Raytheon family of companies in the late 1960s, he remained president until his retirement in 1985.

While he was employed in Cambridge, he and his family lived in Lexington, Massachusetts, spending leisure time in New London, New Hampshire and Bridgehampton. He served as a director of State Street Bank, Boston, as board chair of Commonwealth Energy System, Cambridge, as vice president of Boston Museum of Science, as a director of Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge, and as a trustee of the Belmont Hill School.

During his retirement, he and his wife spent the winter months in Vero Beach, Florida, and summer and fall in Bridgehampton, enjoying family visits and continuing his passion for painting watercolors.

Mr. Siegfried is survived by a daughter, Martha S. Fritz and husband Frederick of Massachusetts; and a son, Dr. Jay W. Siegfried and wife Barbara of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Jay W. Fritz and wife Adeeva, Matthew M. Fritz and wife Chandler, Benjamin H. Fritz and wife Jennifer, Edwin R. Siegfried, Clinton M. Siegfried and wife Kaitlin, and Elizabeth S. Yount and husband Austin; and eight great-grandchildren, Cara, Phoebe, Ellie, Miles, Charlotte, Eliot, Huntting and Samuel Fritz. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Martha W. Oberrender; and a devoted extended family.

Services will be private, and burial will be in Bridgehampton.
