Eight-figure sales have become almost ho-hum in the Village of Southampton, as a recent spate of closings attest. Among them was 90 Murray Lane, which sold for $12,500,000.

The seller was the estate of Agnes Rohrs, who passed away two years ago at age 85. The buyers are Emelia and Imrich Kallan. If those names sound familiar, we wrote about them a few weeks ago when they sold their manse on Duck Pond Lane in Southampton for $8,500,000. Their new acquisition is a 4,344-square-foot, single-family home with 3 bedrooms and 5 baths, on a 1.85-acre property. As previously reported, Mr. Kallan is president of the Library Hotel Collection.

Also changing hands for $12,500,000 was 88 Gin Lane, which consists of a generous 2.5 acres of property. We don’t know who the buyer is but we love the name of the legal entity: And By the Way Trust. The initial structure was a carriage house built for Henry Barnes in 1894. Obviously, there is a lot more to the property today.

Rare in the village is vacant land waiting for a new house, so it is worth noting that 261 Great Plains Road has just sold, for $7,100,000. One can expect construction crews to soon make an appearance to transform the 2.03-acre property.

Another robust sale in Southampton was 90 Toylsome Lane, which was purchased by Daniel and Nanna Stern for $6,500,000. And by the way, Mr. Stern has served as the president of the Film Society at Lincoln Center. The couple’s new abode is 6,500 square feet—a quick calculation tells us they paid exactly $1,000 per square foot—with 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths on two floors, on 0.71 of an acre. We’re told that the “lush, prominent, established plantings create a private, intimate setting for entertaining guests or lying by the pool.”

We’ll offer one more residence. It’s not in the village, and in fact may be more Water Mill than Southampton: 466 Edge of Woods Road, which was purchased by Patricia Pacifico for $5,750,000. Situated on 1.24 acres, the 6,400-square-foot residence has 8 bedrooms and 8.5 baths, with unobstructed open field views, backing to 17 acres of reserve and with southwestern exposure. The white-shingled postmodern gable boasts a grand double-height foyer with custom paneling and formal powder room. The open floor plan enjoys an abundance of natural light streaming through the wall of custom glass sliders and transom windows.

Tips for Avoiding Rental Scams

Rental scams are pervasive, targeting both those seeking permanent housing and those seeking a quick getaway or seasonal lease.
