It is a robust time for sellers in Southampton—or at least, they must think so—with properties like 153 Pond Lane on the market for $59 million and 9 Old Towne for sale for $45 million. But let’s take a look at two much more modest properties in the town, 18 and 16 Knoll Road, which have just sold to a couple for a combined $3,425,000.
The first property is a shade over a half-acre in a private community that borders a reserve and has its own marina. The cottage contains three bedrooms and three baths and has winter water views. This would seem to be something like a perfect world because one of the two new owners is Cynthia Fredette, a filmmaker whose latest project, “Half the Perfect World,” was released earlier this year.
Ms. Fredette both wrote and directed the comedy/romance feature about a hat maker who is seduced by her boyfriend’s cousin and, of course, complications ensue. The film stars Heather Lind, Ryan O’Nan, Cara Buono, the veteran character actor Reed Birney, and Janel Molony, whom some readers may remember from the NBC series “The West Wing.”
This is not Ms. Fredette’s first foray into film. In 2011, she co-produced “Codependent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same,” about the misadventures of three residents of the planet Zot sent to Earth on a mission to rid themselves of romantic emotions. Don’t sneer! The movie was an official selection of both the Seattle International Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival, and The Hollywood Reporter intoned, “A hilarious date movie for couples of all orientations.” The New York Times boarded the ship too: “A witty ode to urban love and shoestring sci-fi. This enormously likable movie keeps sexual politics on the back burner and the universal search for connection front and center.”
Ms. Fredette’s husband, Dr. Gregory Levitin, presumably does not encounter aliens, lesbian or otherwise, in his practice as an otolaryngologist and head and neck surgeon in New York City.
