Large estates are a dime a dozen on the East End and some of them use substantially more public water than the average home, which, district-wide, uses approximately 160,000 gallons per year. Here are the top 10 users in Southampton and East Hampton towns for the first nine months of 2015, according to data obtained via a Freedom of Information Act request to the Suffolk County Water Authority:

In Southampton Town:

• Top place goes to billionaire and conservative political activist David Koch, with more than 10 million gallons used at his Meadow Lane estate in Southampton Village.

• In second place is Randy Frankel at his Rose Hill Road home in Water Mill, with 7.2 million gallons.

• Third place goes to Ickenham Limited, a foreign business corporation registered in the Bahamas, again on Meadow Lane, with 6.3 million gallons used.

• In fourth place is Wendy Hamburger-Langman, whose husband, Steven, is chairman and co-founder of the private-equity and financial advisory firm the Rhône Group. Their home on Flying Point Road in Water Mill used 4.8 million gallons of water.

• Number five is Steven Witkoff, founder and CEO of real estate investment and development firm the Witkoff Group, consuming 3.9 million gallons at his Coopers Neck Lane estate in the Southampton Village.

In East Hampton Town:

• Film studio executive David Geffen used 4.6 million gallons of water at his West End Avenue estate in East Hampton Village.

• David Walsh, president and CEO of a networking and software company, used 2.8 million gallons of water at his Further Lane residence.

• Third place goes to Adam Levison on Beach Plum Court in Amagansett, with 2.7 million gallons used.

• Devon Colony 1 LLC on Cross Highway, also in Amagansett, takes fourth place with 2.6 million gallons used.

• Fifth place goes to Richard Rubin on Chauncey Close in East Hampton, at 1.9 million gallons.
