Weekly Hours: Flexible (Not to exceed 20 Hours Per Week)
Hourly Rate: $30.00 CDL / $25.09 AAA
FLSA: Exempt
Department: Senior Center Services
Job Description
Under general supervision of the Senior Center Manager, the On-Call As Needed Driver and Bus Driver transports Shelter Island senior citizens, residents, handicapped, and other persons with physical disabilities from their homes or other areas to and from designated areas. The employee operates a vehicle within flexible time frames and on varying routes as directed. Must be a CDL License Drive to drive a 22 Passenger Bus plus a Mini-Bus Driver, a AAA/5310 Driver, and Enhanced Mobility Driver.
Detailed instructions and supervision are given at the beginning of employment and on the variety of assignments such as Driving to Events, Shopping Assistance, Medical Appointments, Meal Delivery, etc. Performs related work as required.
Essential Responsibilities (partial list)
• Employee is available on call as needed to operate a 22 Passenger Bus and other vehicles on varying routes during varying times; may operate a mechanical or or manual wheelchair lift on the vehicle.
• Responsible for assisting frail and handicapped passengers as they approach and board the vehicle plus support clients and their belongings on location.
• Picks up and discharges ambulatory and/or handicapped clients transported from their homes to medical facilities, offices, bank, pharmacies, shopping areas, nutrition sites, and Senior Center Program.
• Other duties as required.
Requirements
Must be at least 21 Years of Age; Current and Clean New York State Driver’s License; High School Diploma or equivalent; Pre-employment drug test/and part of random drug tests for employees; Background Check Agreement.
Physical Capabilities
Must possess mobility to assist handicapped clients with their wheelchair and/or walker; Must have recent Physical Exam from a medical doctor; CPR Certified a plus; Sufficient physical condition to handle demands of driving/transporting clients;
