Not That Voice

It’s not surprising that Phil Keith believes the Republicans need more people like John McCain [“Bananas All Around,” Mostly Right, January 9]. Like McCain, Mr. Keith can always be counted on to trash the people and policies of the party he purports to support.

Brave as he was as a POW, McCain was a disaster as a political leader. We now know, for example, that he aided and abetted the Democrats’ failed coup against President Trump by funneling the utterly false Steele dossier to James Comey and his henchmen Andrew McCabe and Peter Strzok, in an attempt to give it a credibility it did not warrant.

Similarly, Mr. Keith attributes laughable motives as Trump’s reasons for killing the mass murderer Qassem Soleimani, a job that should have been accomplished by Obama, Bush or Clinton but wasn’t. He labels it an attempt to distract from the impeachment circus, a freak show that has totally flopped.

There’s no better time for taking out a monster like Soleimani than as soon as the opportunity arises. Trump did just that. How much longer were we supposed to wait? How many more terror bombings, rapes and beheadings orchestrated by this creep were we supposed to tolerate?

By the way, as I write this, it’s the Iranians who have backed down. They know what will happen if they retaliate: Trump will send cruise missiles their way — not billions of dollars, as Obama did.

The Press should be congratulated for being the only one of our three local newspapers to publish a column that ostensibly serves as a conservative/libertarian voice in this decidedly liberal community. Sadly, Mr. Keith has shown once again that his column is not that voice.
